👩🏻💼 Business Thought!
Last month I talked about your motivation and how to stay on top of your work while taking a healthy amount of breaks. This month I would like to talk about creativity!
Creativity can be a hard thing to maintain when turning your passion into a business. At times it can feel like you’re only making what the world wants you to make because thats what sells. This can really put a damper on your creative energy.
While it is important to make work that sells, it is equally as important to make work that speaks to you as an artist, and keeps you inspired to create more.
In my business I like to coming up with a new product, and then making it until it no longer brings me joy. At that point I shift my attention to something new and repeat the process. This keeps me interested in what i’m making and allows me to constantly have new product coming out of my studio.
This method can also create an urgency to buyers to purchase products they like before they are no longer available.
The important thing is to not just produce what sells, but to stay creative and try new things as often as possible so you don’t burn yourself out on one design. Work hard, but have fun!!

🧽 Pottery Tools I Love!
This is a tool that I had for a while and appreciated in many ways! In the end, I found that I preferred my own trimming methods, but that doesn’t mean that this wasn’t a super useful tool! It is the Giffin Grip and you can use it to centre your pottery on your wheel head during the trimming stage! It holds your pot on for you while you trim and is much better for not warping your rim by using clay lugs. The price point is a little unfriendly, and if your pots aren’t symmetrical just yet, it doesn’t do a great job of centring your base. But if you have the funds and you’re making some really even pots, this tool can save you time and energy when it comes to trimming your pots!

This is 4 or 5 years of saved up glaze chips from my various empty glazes! There has to be around 30 different glazes inside this jar and I’m going to mix it into one super glaze and see what happens! It will likely be brown… but you never know! This is just for fun and to add a little excitement into my life, but stay tuned for the results! I will post an update picture in my mid march update!

Thats all for the month! Thank you all for subscribing and being a part of my pottery journey! Stay tuned for the next email update coming in April and keep an eye on my instagram for my mug giveaway!! ❤️
Love,
